SMCClab at NIME 2026 in London
Charles, Pia, and Yichen are in London for NIME2026 presenting and performing works from the ANU Sound Music and Creative Computing Lab (SMCClab)!

ANU and the SMCClab is well represented at NIME this year! We started by presenting the Future NIME Leaders Workshop yesterday, a new initiative to surface and empower NIMErs who want to contribute to the community beyond submitting and reviewing.
Over the rest of the conference we have
- Histories of the Schmitt Trigger in Handmade Electronic Instruments for Making Sound in the Arts: A Literature Review (Pia van Gelder) - Poster Session 1.
- Opening the Design Space: Two Years of Performance with Intelligent Musical Instruments (Charles Martin) - Papers 9B
- A Web Interface for Real-Time Interaction with Machine Learning in Musical Performance (Hongzhe Zhu; Charles Martin) - Poster Session 3 (remote)
- 回溯:Co-constructing a Dual Feedback Apparatus (Yichen Wang; Charles Martin) - Concert 8
In Charles’ paper he will talk about learning how to create intelligent musical instruments with IMPSYpi platform and Charles will play an IMPSY instrument in the Friday evening concert.
The new news is that IMPSY is now available as an AUv3 MIDI effect and a web application, so it’s easier than ever to engage with real-time, small-data, AI in musical interaction. Give it a try!
