Goals
- Participants sketch a feasible NIME proposal using the
official template
- Participants confront the realities of hosting (finance,
bureaucracy, space, resources)
- Facilitators learn what future hosts could bring and what support
they’d need
Materials
- Printed summary of the hosting proposal template
- Link sheet: proposal template + cookbook (see resources page)
- Optional: example proposal (NIME 2025) for reference
- Sticky notes per participant
Background reading
- Organiser reflections, official hosting guidance, and the proposal
template are collected in
resources/01-organiser-reflections.md
- Includes host retrospectives (e.g. Charles Martin on NIME2025) and
the Steering Committee’s “Note on future NIMEs”
Plan for the session (~60m)
- Provocation + template/cookbook intro
(
lectures/02-propose-a-nime)
- Group activity: plan a NIME in an hour
- Pitch-back + facilitator reality-check
Activities
Activity 1: Plan a NIME
(small groups)
- Groups fill a cut-down proposal template: theme, venue, dates,
budget sketch, committee, accessibility
- Constraint: work from resources you actually have, not a dream
conference
- Optional: assign each group a constraint (tight budget, specific
region, fixed venue)
Activity 2: Pitch-back
- 2-min pitch per group
- Facilitators (former chairs) reality-check: misconceptions, hidden
support, real constraints
Facilitator notes
- Prepare 1-2 real budget/logistics anecdotes to ground the
discussion
- Balance encouragement (experimental NIMEs welcome) with
realities
